A Week in the Life of an AELS Student

Are you currently looking for an English language school to study English in America? If you decide that you want to study in the United States, there are plenty of reasons why you should study at American English Language School. Our teachers are qualified, passionate, and caring, our results are guaranteed to improve your English quicker than other English language schools. To help you see what it’s like to study at AELS, let’s look at a week in the life of our students.

First things first, class is held 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. When students come to class on Monday morning, they are greeted by their teacher and classmates and maybe have a little chat to catch up with each other. The first thing that students typically do on Mondays is share their activity projects, the homework assigned the previous week about the topics learned that week. Each student takes turns presenting their activity project and answering any questions that others may have. Then, students take a 10-minute break.

After the first break, teachers go over the test that was taken the previous Friday. Students will be able to go over the questions they missed and be able to ask the teachers why they got certain questions wrong and how to improve in the future.

Each week has a topic the class focuses on such as housing, job interviews, or government. On Mondays, teachers introduce the topic of the week and then go over the vocabulary for the unit. For the rest of the week, students do activities related to the topic of the week. These activities involve reading, listening, writing, grammar challenges, and a lot of class discussions. On Fridays, the class reviews what they learned for the week and go over the activity project assignment. Then during the last hour of class, students take their unit test, which will include reading, listening, and speaking questions about what they learned that week.

Being a student at AELS is a rigorous but rewarding experience. Students have many opportunities to practice their English in many interactive ways, from writing and reading to listening and speaking. Our small class size of 8 or less students gives students more opportunities to speak English and ask questions during class.
