Optimus knows that having fewer students in class allows each person more time to talk with both the teacher and his or her classmates. Although reading and writing are both integral parts of language learning, each of these can be done at your own pace and with plenty of time for analysis and/or correction. Research has shown that the act of using language in real-time listening and speaking situations uses both of the parts of your brain that deal with language (Broca’s area and Wernicke’s area).
This requires more focus, leading to more growth in your language proficiency. But, if you only get to speak once or twice a day because there are so many students in class who also need opportunities to speak, you are limiting your growth. We maximize your growth by limiting the number of students each teacher has to focus on and giving you as many chances as possible to speak English with others.
