Citizenship Test Preparation

American English Language School’s Citizenship Test Preparation class is a 40-hour class that will help prepare students for the naturalization process. The Citizenship/Naturalization Test (sometimes referred to just as the Civics Test) is an exam consisting of two parts that must be passed in order to become a naturalized U.S. Citizen. Both parts take place during an interview with a USCIS Officer.

The first part assesses your ability to write, read, and speak in English. You will be asked questions about the information you submitted on your Application for Naturalization (Form N-400), which will help the Officer determine the truthfulness of your application and your ability to speak English. You will then begin the English Test portion of the interview during which you will be asked to read a sentence aloud in English and write one sentence in English to determine your ability to read and write in English.

The second part is a civics test, gauging your knowledge of U.S. history and government. You will be asked up to 10 questions from the 100 Civics Questions used by the USCIS. In order to pass, you will need to answer 6 questions correctly. Once you have completed each portion of the naturalization interview, you will receive a decision.

In this class, students will learn how to fill out their Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization) and discuss their answers in a mock interview format in order to prepare for the spoken section of the test. Each student will complete a full mock interview at least twice. They will also practice reading and writing sentences in English to fulfill the reading and writing requirements. Finally, students will study all 100 Civics Questions and take practice tests on the information.
