Each week, students focus on a different topic. Last week, students learned about trying to find balance in their lives. Students analyzed and created schedules, created goals, created solutions to overcome obstacles, identified good and bad study habits, and went over time management strategies.
A major focus of the unit was goals. Goals are things that you would like to achieve in the future. Teachers went over three different types of goals: personal, educational, and occupational. Personal goals are short or long-term goals related to your lifestyle or living situation such as buying a new car, moving to a bigger house, or learning a new skill. Educational goals are goals related to school, like going to a university to get your degree. Occupational goals are goals about your job or position at work. Students thought of their goals and made new goals with their classmates. However, sometimes when you create goals, you run into some obstacles. Obstacles are anything that gets in the way of a goal. Some obstacles that students had in common were time and money. They discussed possible solutions to overcome these obstacles.
Another focus of the week was study habits. When you are studying for a test, quiz, or anything else, it is important that you concentrate. This means that you are studying in a clean and quiet environment. Another good study habit is making a study schedule and sticking to it. Some of the bad study behaviors that students went over were studying with the television on, not sitting at a desk, or not studying in advance. Can you think of any other good or bad study habits that you may have?
At the end of the week, students went over time management. Some time management skills are creating a schedule, multitasking, and of course, following your schedule. Efficient time management will help you to feel less stressed and give you more time to do things just for fun.
Creating goals and overcoming obstacles, following good study habits and forgetting bad habits, and time management skills are important. Following these will help you be successful in accomplishing your personal, educational, and occupational goals.
