Once you have started studying English, many of your friends will be asking you the same question: is studying English difficult? Next time someone asks you this question, try using one of these idioms to answer them!
If you think studying English is really hard:
-to bite off more than you can chew: to accept more work than you can finish
Ex: "I think I bit off more than I can chew and won't be able to finish the project on time."
-to be in over your head (in over my head): to have more work than you can finish
Ex: "She was definitely in over her head as a stay-at-home mom with six children."
-to be at your wit’s end (at my wit’s end): to be so worried, confused, or annoyed that you don't know what to do next
Ex: "He was at his wit's end trying to figure out how to solve the math problem."
-to have your work cut out for you: to have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time
Ex: "With 5 chapters left to study and only 2 hours before the test, he knew he had his work cut out for him."
-a last resort: something you will only do when everything else you've tried has failed
Ex: "Policemen will only shoot at someone as a last resort."
If studying English feels easy:
-a piece of cake: a simple task
Ex: "It should be a piece of cake to make the decorations myself."
-to be as easy as pie: to be easy to complete
Ex: "I love watching movies, so a movie-watching contest would be as easy as pie for me!"
-a breeze: an easy task
Ex: "The famous singer thought it would be a breeze to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the president."
-a walk in the park: an easy and enjoyable task
Ex: "Learning English is a walk in the park compared to learning Mandarin."
-no sweat: easy
Ex: "Fixing the television will be no sweat for me."
