Halloween Season

Halloween Season

Monday, October 31st, is Halloween day! What is Halloween? Halloween is a holiday full of costumes, candy, parties, and scares! It is a day that people choose to celebrate however they like.

Why do we celebrate Halloween? The tradition began because of an ancient Celtic festival. The Celtics celebrated the new year on November 1st. They believed on the night before the new year, ghosts would return to the earth. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare off ghosts. It was originally called All Saints Day or All Hallows Eve, and later became known as Halloween.

Now, how do we celebrate Halloween? Typically, when people think of Halloween, they think of costumes and candy. Most children dress up in various Halloween costumes. Elementary schools will usually have Halloween parades and parties for students to enjoy and celebrate during the day. During the night, children wear their costumes and go trick-or-treating. Trick or treating is when children dress up in their costumes and knock on their neighbors’ doors. They will say “trick or treat” and receive candy. By the end of the night, they should have a bag full of treats!

Many people also celebrate by visiting a pumpkin patch to buy pumpkins. They may purchase pumpkins for decorations around the house or yard. Others will decorate their pumpkins with paint or carve faces, figures, or writing on their pumpkins. After the pumpkins have been finished, you can put a small light inside. These are called jack-o-lanterns.

There are also various Halloween events for everyone! Many amusement parks will have Halloween nights full of scary mazes, unique costumes, and other fun. There will be plenty of opportunities to get scared by the employees dressed in scary costumes.

We hope our students will be able to celebrate this fun holiday! Our students will be having a treat and enjoying classic Halloween movies while eating some delicious popcorn.
